going places: chicago part 2

Part two begins at 5am on Saturday May 28. It was my cousin's 23 birthday so I brought my "happy birthday" banner and taped it up in our hotel room while it was dark and everyone was sleeping. When she woke up, I had an obnoxious birthday song ready on the speakers. Gotta start the birthday right! We decided to have a chill morning and took our time starting the day. At about 11 we headed out to shop at a couple more places that we saw on the way home the day before. We ate lunch at Grand Lux Cafe just a street away. After a quick break back at the hotel we headed south of the river to see all the parks and the famous "bean". It was so crowded! Next time we will definitely be visiting this area before noon. We decided to explore all of Grant Park and walked all around and down to Buckingham Fountain. So pretty and right on the water! We had a lot of fun hanging out in the park. I think you can walk on a path along the lake that goes all the way up to Navy Pier or at least close.

We planned a special birthday dinner and kept it a surprise from the birthday girl until she walked through the doors herself. We all got dressed up and made our way to The Signature Room at the 95th in the John Hancock building. At the hostess stand, we requested a window seat and were put on the 1.5 hour waitlist. We were willing to wait that long for a window seat since this was pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime thing for us. We ended up only waiting about 30 min and got a table with an incredible view of Navy Pier and the city south of the restaurant. This view and experience is amazing and 100% worth it. We were able to time our reservation perfectly so that we saw the view in daylight, sunset, and night during dinner. Sidenote -The women's bathroom has a great view too! We spent about 2.5 hours up there and then made our way to the bottom floor to pick up some cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. We ate it in bed at our hotel haha. We had an early train the next morning and a long day of traveling. We talked a later and all agreed this should be an annual trip with new cities haha.
