life lately

IMG_0167
I came home from my week up north on Thursday night and then began my very busy weekend. On Friday, I went to a family friend's grad part and spent the earlier part of the day helping them set up. On Saturday, I went to a family reunion and then rushed off to a couple grad parties. It was fun because I had just spent the past week with all of my family up north and then we were all together again for the reunion! After the grad parties, I was off to the Beyonce concert with my friends! No surprise, Beyonce puts on an amazing concert. Sunday was spent making quick trips to the store and packing everything up again for week 2 up north. We were back on the road bright and early Monday morning for another car ride!

roadtrippers

Inspired by my recent drive up north with family, here is my guide to a successful car ride for summer travels:

Breakfast on the go. if you're waking up with the sun to start a long car ride, pick up some breakfast before you leave! we like to make a quick stop at Einstein Bagels or McDonalds breakfast for an easy and delicious meal in the car.

Snacks/candy. me and my brothers always make a trip to the store the day before a big trip to stock up on snacks and our favorite candy. they make a long car ride much more enjoyable!

Gas station stop. i don't know why but it's kind of exciting when you pull off the highway to stop in a new area. i like to browse the gas station for unique snacking options or maybe get an icee. it adds to the adventure!

Music playlist. the music played during the car ride becomes the soundtrack to the vacation so it's very important! i like to always make a summer playlist with new songs and then some of those oldies that everyone knows the words to.

Friends. it's always a good idea to be friends with the people you're stuck in the car with. lucky for me, i get along pretty well with my brothers and actually enjoy being stuck in a car with them.

Pillows. everyone wants to be comfortable! especially when taking a car nap.

Book/magazines. this is the perfect time to finally read that book or catch up on celebrity gossip. i like to pick up a magazine when i go to the store the day before and it lasts me all week!

Trivia game. i love playing trivia games in the car with my brothers. we used to play Harry Potter trivia, but more recently we've been playing Friends trivia. we like to ignore the game board and just read the cards to each other.

sounds of summer

This summer, my annual Up North trip with family is a little earlier than usual so my 2013 summertime playlist needed to be completed much sooner than expected. I've been adding songs to the playlist for the past couple months and I'm really looking forward to listening to it while laying out by the water and driving through small, up north towns. Here's what I have on my playlist so far, but I'm sure I will be adding to it even after my summer traveling is done :)

by the seashore

I absolutely love a beachy wave hairstyle during the summer, and I will try just about anything to get that result in my hair. I've tried all the sea salt sprays sold at the stores and salons and every summer I find a new DIY sea salt spray recipe to make at home. This summer, I found my favorite sea salt spray recipe! One thing I love about this one is that it doesn't leave my hair looking and feeling all crunchy like I just used mousse or gel. My hair dried soft, yet kept the beachy waves! This one had the best results on my hair and I can't wait to use it all summer! I found the recipe here.

I used this spray bottle from Target, Herbal Essences spray gel, Organix coconut oil, and sea salt. Mix and shake 1 cup warm water, 1 tbsp sea salt, 1 tsp coconut oil, and 1 tsp gel. I sprayed my hair after drying it about half way. I like to scrunch it with an old cotton t-shirt while using a hair dryer.

pinterest party

As you can see from my post here, a lot of my brother's grad party decorations came from pinterest. The biggest pinterest DIYs that I did were the tassel garland, pom pom garland, and sidewalk paint. They all went over really well with friends and family that stopped by, and I'm glad I did them! The sidewalk paint was definitely my favorite.

grad party weekend

IMG_0091
I spent most of last week working on my little brother's grad party. I finished decorations, finalized set-up, etc. Friday and Saturday were a giant blur of grad party madness. One second we were overwhelmed with everything still do, and the next we were calm and confident with the time left. The morning of the party was super busy, and we crossed our fingers for good weather while we set up the backyard. Overall, I was really happy with how the party turned out! The decorations transformed the backyard, the food was delicious, and everyone had a good time. We were very lucky to have the perfect sunny weather with no rain at all. Here are some pictures from the party!
