blogmas: christmas outfit

On the 12th day of blogmas...
 photo IMG_7396.jpg
Usually silver is my go-to color for Christmas, but this year I've been obsessed with gold. As soon as I saw this dress at Von Maur, I knew I had to have it for my Christmas outfit. The simple gold details on the shoulders and bottom are so pretty. The dress even inspired my nail polish. I kept the rest of the outfit simple with some black tights and gold rings. Christmas Eve this year was absolutely perfect, and I'm looking forward to even more festiveness and celebrating tomorrow!

Thanks so much for joining me for blogmas this year. I have a lot of fun coming up with Christmas-themed content and posting everyday. I really do like spreading Christmas cheer :)

 Have a wonderful Christmas! :)

blogmas: hot chocolate

On the 10th day of blogmas...
 photo IMG_7359.jpg
Today we did a bit of Christmas shopping and spent the rest of the day relaxing and catching up on holiday things. To accompany my laid-back and festive Sunday, I made this hot chocolate. Nothing too special but just the slightest hint of peppermint to give it a Christmas taste. After making hot chocolate like normal, I added a handful of marshmallows and hooked a mini candy cane on the edge. When the candy cane was about half melted, I dunked it and stirred until it was completely melted.

blogmas: a christmas shower

On the 9th day of blogmas...

 photo showercenterpiece6.jpg
Today was my cousin's Christmas-themed bridal shower! My mom and I made the centerpieces so I thought I'd share what we created. We started with large clear vases and added snow and tulle to the bottom. After placing some frosted evergreen tree parts from Joann's along the sides, we added Christmas ornaments that matched her wedding colors. I think they came together really well! We all enjoyed the bridal shower, and I think the decorations added a lot to the party. It was great seeing everyone, and now we're all excited for the wedding!

blogmas: diy mason jar decorations

On the 8th day of blogmas...
 photo IMG_7344.jpg
For these DIY mason jar decorations, I used some clean pasta sauce mason jars and craft paint. After washing and taking the labels off the jars, I got to work painting my snowman. I just used a paper plate to put all the paint on while I worked. I ended up doing two coats of paint on the snowman and the tree and used a bobby pin for dotting. Let the paint dry and fill them with Christmas stuff! I filled one with holiday M&M's and the other with pinecones.

blogmas: homemade popcorn

On the 6th day of blogmas...

 photo IMG_7217.jpg
Since most of my nights between now and Christmas will be spent inside watching something Christmas related, I thought it would be a good time to try some stovetop popcorn. Last night I used this recipe from Brown Eyed Baker. It was super simple and took no time at all. I suggest keeping the lid on (a clear one would be cool) while it pops because it gets a little crazy. I definitely recommend this for those movie nights inside during the winter months!

blogmas: sharpie mug

On the 5th day of blogmas...

 photo IMG_7171.jpg
I made a sharpie mug! I've been seeing these all over pinterest for a long time and figured now is the perfect time to try it out. I got this blank mug from target and used a black sharpie for the writing. Before drawing anything, I used an alcohol swab to clean the side of the mug. I suggest practicing what you want to write on a piece of paper first because it's really hard writing on a curved surface. If you act fast enough after a mess up, you can use an alcohol swab to clean it up and start over. Once I finished my design, I baked it in the oven for 30 minutes at 425ºF without being preheated. After the 30 minutes, I left the oven open slightly so that the inside would cool down slowly.

Now I haven't put this through the dishwasher yet, but most of the tutorials I read had these general instructions. Hopefully the design stays permanent, but I will update this post as soon as I find out!

blogmas: diy ornament

On the 3rd day of blogmas...

 photo santaornament3.jpg
I thought it would be fun to make some new ornaments for my tree this year so I picked up some supplies at Michael's and started brainstorming. For the first craft, I decided to make a santa ornament. I started with a clear ornament and poured some red acrylic paint in the top. After rotating the ornament around to evenly spread the paint, I let it sit upside down for a few hours so the excess paint could drip out. Once the paint was dry, I used a black sharpie to draw santa's belt. I chose to first make dots all the way around as a guide for my straight line. Lastly, I used a gold metallic sharpie to draw the buckle. Now santa is hanging on my tree!

pumpkin cupcake

I recently discovered this Pumpkin Cupcake recipe from Real Simple. The cupcakes are so delicious that I've already made them twice in three weeks. I just had to share! I followed the cupcake recipe exactly except that I added about a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter. As for the frosting, I used cream cheese frosting from the store and mixed in a good amount of cinnamon (add to taste). The best thing about these cupcakes? They taste even better a few days later. They get that delicious pumpkin gooeyness on top!

apt diy: headboard

All summer long I was browsing pinterest for bedroom decoration ideas for my new apartment. After seeing a million perfect bedrooms, I knew I wanted a cute headboard. This worked out perfectly because the bed supplied by the apartment was just a basic frame. I could be as creative as I wanted with a headboard!

To start out, I used a piece of drywall cut to about 4 feet wide and 2.5 feet tall. My dad had some left over in our garage and helped me cut it to size. I know not everyone has extra drywall laying around so a large piece of cardboard would be another option! I knew I wanted my headboard to have a wood look so I went on the hunt for some scrapbook paper. I found the perfect pattern at Michaels and picked up about 10 sheets. Before starting, I used some white duct tape to give the edges a smooth finish. From there, I lined up all the scrapbook sheets and glued them down with a glue stick. Now the headboard is at the top of my bed resting on the bed frame!

apt diy: chalkboard

Pinterest taught me that I can pretty much turn anything into a chalkboard. So I thought I would jump on board and make a chalkboard for my new apartment. I wanted something large, but didn't want to pay for a huge frame or mirror. Instead, I purchased a 27"x40" poster frame from Michaels for 40% off. It's a cheap frame, but it worked perfectly for this idea. After removing the frame sides, I used some black chalkboard spray paint to coat the plastic covering that came in the poster frame. To finish the project, I followed the suggested drying time and instructions on the back of the spray paint can. It's as simple as that! Now we have a cute chalkboard hanging in our apartment :)
