june favorites

A few of my favorite things during the month of June!
Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream. I love coffee ice cream, and I love Heath bars. Together they make the most delicious ice cream flavor ever. Definitely my new favorite!

Starbucks Mocha Coconut Frappuccino. So amazingly delicious and perfect for a hot summer day. It kind of reminds me of the girl scout samoa/caramel delight cookies.
** Starbucks is offering $1 off each frappuccino when you buy 2 or more! Offer is June 27 - July 1st.
** Buy one frappuccino, get one free at all Target Starbucks locations! Offer is now through July 2nd.

Maybelline The Falsies Flared mascara. Why did I wait so long to try this?

Yahoo! Burning Love. A web series spoof of The Bachelor. If you've ever watched The Bachelor/Bachelorette, you should check this out.

Parenthood season 2. I just started watching this show when season 3 was on TV, so I thought I should watch it from the beginning over the summer! Such a great show and definitely a new favorite!

Pretty Little Liars. PLL just returned for their summer season! It's already crazy intense, and I love it!

Bubble Shooter app. An extremely pointless game. But also very addicting.

White Noise app. I fall asleep to the sound of rain every night!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Such a good book! And it was just made into a movie that comes out September 2012. Watch the trailer here.

minty makeup

To save some money on makeup, I decided to order the 'pan refill' eyeshadows instead of individual ones that come in cases. But then I had three eyeshadow pans and nothing to hold them. I decided to turn an Altoid tin into my own makeup palette! It was really simple and worked perfectly with the pans!

This DIY makeup palette would also work for any depotted eyeshadows. Depotting is great for those makeup quads from the drugstore that really only have one or two good colors. Depotting allows you to pick your favorite colors and make your own palette! Search 'depot eyeshadows' on google or youtube for a tutorial.

Here's how I made my DIY makeup palette:
spray paint a clean, empty Altoid tin. i chose black paint.
this step is optional. the eyeshadow pans can go straight in to the Altoid tin since they are already magnetized. since i wanted the pans to fit in to a grid of some kind, i used a foam sheet (from joann's). cut the foam sheet to the size of the altoid tin and then cut holes for the eyeshadow pans.
from here, i just wedged the foam sheet in the bottom of the tin and it stayed perfectly.
you could also use a hot glue gun to make sure it is secure.
 finished product!

*the eyeshadows shown here are MAC: satin taupe, quarry, and naked lunch*

apple of my eye

After a long weekend away filled with a family wedding and then a graduation party with the other side of the family, I was craving some apple crisp to welcome me home. Luckily, today I woke up to a stormy morning. I love summer storms. They are perfect for sleeping in and baking! I got this recipe from my cousin, and it is so delicious! Definitely the best apple crisp I've ever tasted.

i used vanilla ice cream instead of cool whip!

island in the sun

It's officially vacation time! I love being able to get away and relax for a little! Whether you're going away for the weekend or the whole week, packing can be a struggle. Here are some tips for happy packing/traveling!

1. Use straws to store necklaces. I hate putting necklaces in my jewelry bag and then finding them tangled in a giant knot later. This keeps them tangle free during travel!

2. Travalo Refillable Spray Bottle for perfume. This gadget allows you to fill a travel size perfume spray with your favorite perfume! Just take off your perfume cap and pump in the Travalo bottle. It's really easy and gives you about 50 sprays of perfume. And it comes it multiple colors!

3. Roll your clothes. Roll your clothes instead of folding them. You will save space in your suitcase!

4. Downy Wrinkle Releaser spray. This travel size product works great for clothes that were wrinkled in your suitcase. Another solution is to hang wrinkled clothes in the bathroom while you shower. Also, if you're super desperate and can't get ahold of an iron, use your hair straightener!

5. Z Palette customizable makeup palette. Z Palette makes empty makeup palettes that have a magnetic bottom and a clear top. They come in two different sizes and many different colors. Fill it with your makeup for your trip to keep it all together!

6. Plan your outfits. Plan your outfit ahead of time for each day of vacation. This will save you from over-packing!

7. Sally Hansen Salon Effects. These nail polish "stickers" are perfect for when you don't want to worry about nail polish chipping while on you're vacation. They last up to 10 days and come in various patterns and solid colors.

8. Bath & Body Works travel size products. Hand sanitizer, lotion, shampoo, etc. And they come in all of the amazing BBW fragrances!
**The semi-annual sale starts June 13, 2012! The prices are crazy cheap so don't miss it!

9. Pack an extra outfit. Especially if you're flying! You'll be glad you have that extra outfit in your carry-on when they accidentally lose your luggage.

10. Plastic grocery bags. Plastic grocery bags have a million uses. Put a couple in your suitcase just in case. Use them for dirty clothes, a wet swimsuit, dirty shoes, etc.
